Churchbooks
The Immigrant Genealogical Society Library has microfilm copies
of many churchbooks for the Schaumburg-Lippe area of present
Germany from the time when those areas were independent
principalities or counties. This was of course before the
establishment of the country of Germany in 1871.
If you have an ancestor who emigrated from this area, and you
know the village or parish from which they came, we can check our
lists of villages to see whether we have the churchbooks for the
parish that includes your emigrants records.
If IGS does not have the parish records you need, we can refer
you to someone who does have records for that parish. All
Schaumburg-Lippe church records that have been released by the
Buckeburg Archive are now available here in the U.S. However,
because of boundary changes under different administrations, some
villages on the edges of the general area may not have been under
Schaumburg or Lippe at the time the churchbooks were
recorded.
Send a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope with your request for a
specific village or parish and an approximate time. We'll tell
you whether we can help you or suggest how to pursue the matter
further.
Send your requests to: IGS, P. O. Box 7369, Burbank, CA
91510-7369, USA.
