Bibliography of SWISS Genealogies: This sizeable volume tells which Swiss archives and libraries hold books or periodical articles about various surnames. There is also an index to all surnames about which genealogies have been published in a particular village or city. We can:

___ Men of Bern. In 1798 Napoleon required an oath of allegiance in Switzerland from all men aged 20-70. The 3 volume set, Men of Bern, lists the 60,137 persons swearing in Bern Canton. Their name, village of residence (& sometimes birth), occupation and age are usually given. We'll copy the list showing your ancestor's name, indicate the village and parish where living. Name your village if your surname is a rather common one. Since the parish is given, filmed church records may be borrowed from FHC Library.
